GOOD SPIRIT SCHOOL Teachers's Association SCHOLARSHIP 2010

The GSSD offers scholarships to students, encouraging them to enter the field of teaching! Each year 6 GSSD students are awarded a $750.00 scholarship. Students must be directly entering a faculty of Education or must intend on pursuing education at a post secondary insitute!

Applications are available now from Mrs. Tulloch.

Application deadline is April 30th, 2010.

Last year, KCI's Caitlyn Fedorak was a recipient of this scholarship!

The FORUM for Young Canadians

The FORUM experience brings students to Ottawa for a one week intensive academic adventure that immerses them in the exciting world of politics and public affairs. The program is a bilingual, nonpartisan leadership program where students learn about parliamentary democracy and how to make a difference!

WHO: students aged 15 - 19 - from across Canada. Only 125 students will be selected to attend.

Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan

Applicants must be Saskatchewan residents and a child, grandchild, or great grandchild of veterans, ex-service or still serving military or RCMP personnel. Must be entering 1st year of university, technical school or business college. Final Sask. Ministry of Education marks must be submitted with the application.
Criteria: academic standing and financial need

International Student Exchange Programs

ASSE - international student exchange programs - has been offering exchanges since 1976.
You must be between 15 and 18 years of age and have an average of 75% or more, be in good health and ready to live in an experience, and be mature. You must be able to provide good references, as well!

SHAD VALLEY SUMMER CAMP

SHAD VALLEY summer camps have existed for many years for students who are interested in an enriched academic experience, connecting with other high school students who are high achievers, and accessing exclusive university scholarships!

At SHAD VALLEY, you will pursue academic interests and develop new ones. It is a demanding program that pushes students to levels of challenge and achievement far beyond what most have experienced to date!

Toyota Earth Day Scholarships

Toyota Canada Inc. established a scholarship to cultivate and nurture environmental leadership. Tweny awards of $5000.00 are distributed each year to students who are in grade 11 or 12, who will be attending a post-secondary institute, demonstrates a high level of outstanding committment to environmental issues, community service and leadership. Academics are a consideration, as well.

Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (S.A.R.M.) Scholarship

If you are enrolled in Grade 12, are planning to attend a post-secondary Saskatchewan school in the fall of 2010, (or outside of Sask. if the course is not offered in Sask.), have a farming background or your parents/guardians rent or own land and pay taxes to a rural municipality, this scholarship is for you!

S.A.R.M. offers a $1000.00 scholarship to the student submits the best farm safety essay accompanied by a completed application form.

Saskatchewan Physical Association Scholarship

The Saskatchewan Physical Education Association is now accepting applications for its annual scholarships. Two awards of $700.00 will be presented annually.

The student must be actively involved in his/her school's physical education, intramural and extra-curricular program.
The student must have an average of at least 70% in subject areas required for minimum entrance requirements for his/her intended area of study.

Millennium Excellence Scholarships

The Millennnium Excellence Scholarships accepted its last applicants in December of 2008. The Foundation will cease to exist in 2010 and all monies will be turned over to Canada Student Loans and offered as: Canada Student Grants Program. If you have read the new Student Loans handbook posted on Sept. 8th, you will note that there have been some new , good, additions to the loans.

TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership

If you have made a difference in your community - this might be the scholarship for you! The TD Canada Trust Scholarship for Community Leadership rewards young people who have shown leadership in many areas including environmental cleanup, promotion of social justice, and the fight against child poverty, to name just a few.

Good news.....there have been some increases in the amounts dispersed by Student Loans and some considerations for special circumstances!

GSSD DISTANCE LEARNING COURSES:

The Good Spirit School Division will be delivering 14 courses in print form (with the exception of PAA Survey Course) to students across Saskatchewan. This is an excellent way to access courses students may need to complete requirements for graduation or just to take a course for interest or credit. This format is similiar to the old correspondence school courses in that courses are delivered to and from the school via mail - and there are teachers available via phone during the school day.

Students can register anytime from August 31st, 2009!

It's a New School Year and New Opportunities Are Everywhere!

Welcome back to a new year and a fresh start! Congratulations to all Spartans who were recognized at a Night of Spectacular Spartans on Sept. 3, 2009! What a great way to start the new school year!

The intent of this blog is to provide students and parents/guardians with a wealth of information of opportunities of all sorts - exchange programs, post-secondary information, career information, scholarships, career fairs, trips to post-secondary institutes, etc. I look forward to communicating with parents and guardians (of students from FLS and KCI!) this year and encourage you to email me at gtulloch@mail.gssd.ca. Home and school are important links. I especially look forward to communicating with parents/guardians of Grade 12 students. Saskatchewan School Boards Association Scholarships

Each year the Saskatchewan School Boards Association offers $1000.00 scholarships to students who must complete an essay question. If you like to write, this scholarship is a good one because most students chose not to write the essay scholarships! The scholarships also consider good character, leadership and financial need. The essay is only 500 words long!

Affinity Credit Union Graduate Scholarships!

The Affinity Credit Union sponsors two scholarships for our two schools. KCI/Keesekoose First Nations/Cote First Nations schools grads are eligible for a $500.00 based on academics/extra-curricular involvement/and community involvement. Recipients must be attending post-secondary education in the fall.

Pelly grads are eligible for a $250.00 scholarship - following the same criteria.

Students have been given the application forms - extra-copies are available in the Guidance Office.

Deadline for submission to Mrs. Tulloch is Wednesday, June 3rd at 3:30. I will attach the transcript information and deliver the forms on Thursday.

Make sure to ask for reference letters in a timely matter so that your referee has time to write a good letter that best represents you! Nothing is worse than having a student ask for a reference letter the day of the deadline, folks!

Grand Lodge of Saskatchewan - Masonic Youth Trust Fund Scholarships

One scholarship of $1000.00 in each Masonic District is offered to Sask. High School Graduates who proceed to a post-secondary institution in Canada. Based on academic achievement, leadership skills, community and school activities, financial need, etc. Must be registered for a full academic load for a full academic year at a post- sec. institution.

This is an annual scholarship of $2000.00 - offered to a Saskatchewan resident who is taking a college or university level safety program. Applicants must also submit responses to selected questions along with their application.

Saskatchewan School Boards Assoc. Education Scholarships

Two $1000.00 scholarships for graduating students are available! There is one $1000.00 scholarship for a student entering university in Saskatchewan. One scholarship of $1000.00 is available to a student entering a recognized insitute of applied science and technology in Saskatchewan.

The scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated good character, community leadership, financial need and a 500 word essay. The application deadline is August 31st, 2009.

Parkland College Scholarships

Parkland Regional College offers a wide range of entrance scholarships for students planning to attend in the fall of 2009! There are scholarships for university entrance as well as for skills training (SIAST, SIIT,etc.!)

Casino Regina Scholarship and Award Program

Sask. Gaming Commission offers scholarships to encourage Sask. residents to pursue full-time post-secondary education in the fields of business administration, hospitality management, culinary arts, electronics or computer technologies, and communications.

There are several scholarships and awards available. For universities there are entrance and undergraduate scholarships with a value of $1000. For technical institutes/colleges there are scholarships of $500 each. There is a community leadership award of $2500.

Good Spirit Teachers' Association Scholarship

The Good Spirit School Division Teachers' Assoiciation wishes to encourage students to enter the field of Education! Six scholarships of $750.00 each will be awarded to students applying either directly or indirectly to the College/Faculty of Education - with intentions of working toward an education degree.

GSSD Scholarships

The Good Spirit School Division Board of Education will once again this year be offering a $400 scholarship to the top graduating student in each of the Grade 12 classes throughout the division.
The top graduate will be determined using the criteria established by the Ministry of Education for General Proficiency Awards (which is by the way, the same criteria we use for our local scholarships)!

This scholarship is awarded at our annual Spectacular Spartans evening which has been held on the first Thursday evening of the new school year! Stay tuned for the official date!

Monsanto Canada Scholarship for Farm Families

The Monsanto Scholarship is available to high school students from family farms who are enrolled in their final year of high school as of May 15, 2009. Those eligible must be planning to enroll in a post-secondary institution in a first year agriculture or forestry program. Successful applicants will each be awarded a scholarship valued at $1500.00 based on academics, and leadership in the community.

Applications must be postmarked no later than May 15, 2009.

Saskatchewan Command Legion Awards

Legion Scholarships and Bursaries
The Saskatchewan Command, in cooperation with the Dominion Command of The Royal Canadian Legion are offering 10 scholarships of $300.00 each (based on adacemic standing) and 10 bursaries of $300.00 each (based on academic standing and financial need). These are offered to students who have completed their grade 12 and are continuing their education at university, technical school, or business college. These scholarships are available to the sons/daughters, grandsons/granddaughters and great grandsons/great granddaughters of beterans, ex-service, or still serving military or R.C.M.P. personnel. See your guidance counsellor for application forms.

Royal Bank Lifeskills Scholarship

The Royal Bank offers 10 scholarships of $2009 to Canadian high school students who will be attending post-secondary education, full time - in the fall. You must have at least a 65% average and be able to identify 3 career goals or occupations and describe the steps you've taken or will take to achieve your goals!

Every week of the year, 12- -138 teens from across the country (ages 14 - 17) come to Ottawa where they discover their country through each other, learn about Canadian Institutions, meet famous and accomplished Canadians, explore exciting career themes, develop civic leadership skills and live an extraordinary bilingual experience. Over 78,000 youth have lived the EWC experience so far!
